How to Charge Smartphone using Salt Water Battery Amazing Science project

Charging a smartphone using a salt water battery is a very easy process. We can easily make salt water battery using household materials. The saltwater battery is a group of saltwater cells. Each saltwater battery sell produces 0.7 volts. 8 or 9 cells are able to charge a smartphone. 

Working principle of salt water battery:

The electrolyte for a saltwater battery is salt water- hence the device’s name. The anode as zinc plate, and the cathode copper plate.Here salt water allows the cathode and anode to exchange ions in one direction as they deliver electricity.Salt molecules are made of sodium ions and chlorine ions. (An ion is an atom that has an electrical charge because it has either gained or lost an electron).When you put salt in water, the water molecules pull the sodium and chlorine ions apart so they are floating freely. 
These ions are what carry electricity through water.

Materials required:-  9 plastic glass, 9 copper plates, 9 zinc plates, wires, smartphone charging connector pin, salt, water, spoon.

 

 

Making Process:-  

  1. Take nine plastic glass and put them in a circle on the table. 
  2. Fill water in each glass.
  3. Pour 1 spoon of table salt in each glass.
  4. Mix salt with a spoon.
  5. Take 8 copper and 8 zinc plates and make a hole in each plate.
  6. Connect one end of the copper plate to one end of zinc plate as shown in figure.
 
 
   7. Now sold one wire in a copper plate for positive terminal and one wire in a zinc plate for negative terminal.
 
   8. Now put plates in the glass as shown in the picture.  
 
 
 Now salt water battery is ready for use. Connect smartphone charging pin to the battery and connect the smartphone to charge.
 
 For best result follow these terms:-
  
  • Use plastic glasses to avoid conducting charges.
  • Clean plates before use.
  • Plates shouldn’t touch each other.
  • Mix salt properly to free float charges.                                                                                                                                              

 

Each cell of this battery produce 0.7 volts so to increase volt we should increase the number of glasses e.g (0.7 x 10 = 7 volt).
It produces very low ampere so to increase ampere power we should increase the size of plates.
